Alice Clark – Alice Clark (Wewantsounds)
Comments Off on Alice Clark – Alice Clark (Wewantsounds)
A very welcome reissue of this stunning jazz soul album. Very little is known about Alice Clark outside of her short lived recording career from 1968-72. After a few unsuccessful singles the legendary producer Bob Shand signed Alice to Mainstream to record as it would turn out her one and only album. After a lack of commercial success for the album Alice retired from the music industry.
But she was not forgotten. In the UK Alice Clark’s single “You Hit Me (Right Where It Hurt Me)” became a staple of the Northern Soul scene in the 70’s and her album also became a holy grail for jazz and soul fans alike recognised for it’s quality throughout from Alice Clark’s passionate but understated vocals to the superb muscianship.
Alice Clark died of cancer in 2004 aged 57 but in this superb album she will always have her place in jazz soul history.
