Paco De Lucia/Al Di Meola/John McLaughlin is the third and final collaboration between the guitar masters, following on from 1979’s legendary live album Friday Night In San Francisco and the 1983 studio set Passion, Grace And Fire. Recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, the album showcases beguiling original compositions from all members of the trio and also delivers a unique take on Luiz Bonfa/Antonio Maria’s famous ‘Manha de Carnaval’, the theme from the 1956 feature film ‘Black Orpheus’. The ‘Guitar Trio’ album reached #1 on the US Billboard Jazz Chart in October 1996. Despite its success, rumour has it that relations between the performers were strained during the recording and world tour which followed – there were even reports that De Lucia and Di Meola came to blows after a concert at London’s Royal Festival Hall in October 1996.
